A new exhibition within London's British Museum will open on November 4th, in which objects never seen by the public before will be displayed. The exhibition, named 'Journey Through The Afterlife: Ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead' will showcase a number of examples of these intriguing texts, which are up to 3,500 years old.

Books of the Dead were used in ancient Egypt for over 1,000 years and contain spells and incantations which are said to help the deceased travel safely through the underworld and ultimately attain eternal life. The books are often beautifully illustrated on fine papyrus paper. Sometimes, these art works also detail the deceased hopes and dreams and this information has given Egyptologist's a great insight into their individual lives.

In addition to the artworks on Papyrus and Linen, the journey to the afterlife is also depicted on amulets, coffins, jewellery and statues.

If you are considering a trip to Egypt, or have booked with us already, then this exhibition, in addition to the normal Egypt displays at the British Museum, is well worth checking out!!
